Ada A. Norton Award

Three winners of the Ada A. Norton Award display their money fans at the 1968 National Convention.

Ada A. Norton Award

The Ada A. Norton Award is perhaps the most recognizable award presented at the National Convention. It honors an alumna who, through longevity, has demonstrated outstanding service to the Sorority in an effective, creative, and dedicated manner.

The award was established at the 1939 National Convention, just two months after Ada A. Norton (Alpha 1899/Eastern Michigan) entered the Eternal Chapter. Ada was instrumental in building the Sorority, including installing Beta Chapter, serving as the second representative to the Association of Education Sororities, and playing a key role in organizing the first National Convention.

Margaret M. MacDonald (Sigma 1925/SUNY Buffalo) designed the dollar bill fan award. It was first presented at the 1946 Convention and 76 worthy women have since been honored with the iconic award.
