1949: The 50th Anniversary Convention

Alpha Sigma Tau presented awards to their outstanding chapters and members at Ninth National Convention Banquet.

1949: The 50th Anniversary Convention

The Sorority celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1949. That year’s National Convention was held in Detroit, Michigan, and was a time of both reflection and joy. National President Carrie Washburne Staehle (Alpha 1924/Eastern Michigan) addressed the future of Alpha Sigma Tau in her speech, encouraging her Sisters to consider the Sorority’s place and relevance both in colleges and in regards to other sororities. She used her speech to discuss the future of the Sorority, namely the need for the development of social competence, the importance of expansion, and the obligation of individual members to fulfill their responsibilities.

In addition to the business portions of the Convention, the members celebrated their sisterhood at parties, teas, luncheons, and the awards banquet.
